Basic Gear Guide
Contents:
1. Equipping Gear
Press Y to open your character profile.
Blue arrows will display on the side if you have other gear of the same type in your inventory. Click on it to expand the list for quick comparisons.
If you have a blue border surrounding the armor, that means nothing is slotted there right now. The game will grab whatever armor you have equipped in the other mode (i.e. here I am in PvE build with no necklace; it will now use whatever stats come from my PvP necklace).
If it is PvP armor it will go into the PvP tab, and PvE goes into the PvE tab. 'nuff said. You could mix them, but not much point in doing that.
2. Repairing Gear
Talk to an NPC and he will repair your gear. If you fall to 20% gear durability, there will be orange icons in the top right of the UI as seen in the video. You will lose all stats from gear if durability drops to 0 (orange icons turn red).
Thankfully, the game will not destroy any gear. Only makes it temporarily useless.
Check how much durability is left by looking at the value on the gear here:
3. PvE vs PvP Gear
MBO has two types of gear (and two power level stats to reflect that).
Both PvP and PvE armors have set bonuses; for PvE this is not affected by which type of bonus is on the armor (so you can customize which pieces are which type).
PVP GEAR: more HP, less dungeon damage, can be enhanced with stones and bonus stats (see advanced gear guide). PvP gear is unique to each class when you get past questing gear, so a Shendao can't wear Taibai class clothes, vice versa, etc.
It will have a big red pvp icon in its description:
PVE GEAR: better damage (in dungeons), has prebuilt bonus stats (tank/crit/heal), can't customize. PvE gear is class unique from T4 onwards. Will have a yellow PvE icon.
4. Purchasing Gear
MBO is pretty straightforward about gear sets (stat customization instead comes from books, armor enhancements, rune stones, etc).
Gear levels for both PvE and PvP are separated by tiers (T1, T2, etc.). You will need to know your Chinese numbers to know what tier the item is (look at the first character in the item name). I've included a number chart for convenience.
Note that generally the rings and gloves give the biggest boost for price so buy them first when leveling up your gear.
(info is current as of July 2018; I tried to generalize what activities are most relevant though)
PvE Gearing: gear either drops directly in dungeons, or you must use tokens to trade for individual parts
PvE Gold Jade Shop: open the store menu (市集) via your profile or corner menu, navigate to the following tabs to trade in your PvE tokens:
Since PvE gear does not have any sequence restrictions, always go for the highest possible tier available. Currently, T7 is the highest available, and T5 is the endgame starter gear.
For the foreseeable future, puppet dungeon is most cost efficient for getting PvE gear. It takes you about 30 min, unlocks at level 80, and drops 5 T5 tokens per run. Note that you must be at least lvl 85 to get the 5 tokens, you only get partial rewards at lvl 80. Once you gear up sufficiently, can go on 106 runs for T6, or if you are luck go to the fish shop and swap gold tier fish for tokens.
Fill gaps with lower tier gear as needed.
You can run ladder to get T1, T2, and T3 jades.
You can use guild points or PvE tokens to get T1-T4 jades (not cost efficient, not recommended):
To check which dungeons drop what, just open the dungeon tab in the bottom menu (话本) and hover over a boss to see what tier of jade they drop.
PvP Gearing: get scroll to craft armor part; scrolls either drop directly or must use tickets to trade for scrolls
this is stupidly long; apologies for the lack of images temporarily
Directly Get Blueprint Scroll:
OR
Blue Scroll (aka blueprint fragments):
PvP gear scrolls/tickets are broken up into different groups. Here's where things get messy:
For T3 upwards, SCROLLS are sold for each individual piece of gear. You will need to make sure you are buying the right scroll for the piece of gear you want. In the image below, it is the red section that specifies the type of gear.
TICKETS are broken up into two groups: weapons/accessory tickets (天工谱) and armor tickets (轩辕谱).
PLEASE check the names before you buy something to avoid wasted time and effort.
T2 and below there are just 3 types of scrolls: weapons (天工谱), accessory (雕龙谱), and armor (轩辕谱); scrolls are not specific to the piece of gear. Tickets are likewise generic.
Crafting your Gear:
Once you got your scroll, you will need to craft your gear. Check the crafting guide for details on how to craft (not written yet) or ask someone to craft for you, but as of right now, you must have T4 gear to get T5 because your T4 gear will be used as an ingredient. All enhancements will get carried over, so don't worry about losing those, but your T4 gear will be destroyed. Ditto for going from T5 to T6 and so on.
[For now, can reference the general game tutorial for help on how to craft for yourself: mbo-english.proboards.com/thread/231/quest-guide ]
5. Recycling Tokens/Scrolls
If you have extra scrolls, tickets, jades lying around, you can sell them to any NPC vendor to get some sort of points back.
PvP items (scrolls, tickets) will be converted into some quantity of help point tokens.
PvE items will get converted into PvE token boxes.
They will give you a confirmation window so you can check the value.
PvE gear can also be refunded; selling any piece of gear will turn that piece into the corresponding number of jades.
