Not the most technically inclined person, but for those interested in Moonlight Blade's inner workings (obviously do at your own risk) I have posted below some resources for getting started with that.
SFC and VFS database unpacker/repacker:
aluigi.altervista.org/quickbms.htm
You will need to download the corresponding decoder files (use ctrl+f to find them).
Some more info about 3D model importing (not totally sure if this still works):

Based on what I've seen from the Vietnamese patch, all the UI strings are in the UI.sfc file. The UI file consists of mostly GFX (Flash) and DDS (image) files with some TTF font files.
For those interested in whipping up an English patch, you'd either want to start there or talk to the good people that made that patch. Not sure if they are actually editing the strings though; it seems that they are simply swapped out the font file so that the Chinese characters read as Vietnamese words instead. Since I don't know Vietnamese, I'm assuming enough of the grammar structure is retained that most of the meaning can be retained.... not so sure that is a viable solution for English.
edit Aug 2018:
Found text strings in the tablebin.sfc file for those interested. The files are a mix of dat/txt files, with strings for quests, items, and system messages inside. If anything needs to be translated, it'd probably be here.
edit March 2019: you can find XML files corresponding to the data in tablebin.sfc in databas0.vfs. The unpacker doesn't do the greatest job with vfs due to the nature of the encryption. Regardless, tablebin.sfc seems to be the files the game actually reads for the text strings.
