I'm sure many have seen the screenshot of Moonlight Blade being featured on Nexon's financial statements as an IP for North America/Rest of the World. Many people are eager to know whether or not this means that Moonlight Blade is now coming to the West through Nexon.
As it stands, there is no guarantee that Nexon will be the publisher. The game was listed on their pipeline, which can mean anywhere from Nexon prepping a bid for localization rights, to actually working on the localization already. We speculate that Nexon is probably in the bidding phase based on how little money they spent on the Western regions in this report though.
Neither Nexon or Tencent have official statements about a Western localization for the game either, so again everything is still up in the air. Tencent may end up going with another publisher or even decide to self publish, given their announcement of an international WeGame launch. Also, keep in mind that even when if we do get confirmation, MBO KR took roughly 2 years to go from announcement to OBT, so a Western launch might not be anytime soon.
Hopefully this clears up misconceptions and possible misinformation being thrown around.
TL;DR: Nexon has not been confirmed as the publisher. Can only confirm Tencent is looking into a Western release.
Personally, mixed feelings if it ends up getting published by Nexon. Thoughts?
edit March 2019: in hindsight the pipeline info was probably referring to the Taiwanese servers that were launched last Fall. However, Tencent has dropped an "IP Outlook" video which mentions an "upcoming NA/EU release". The original video can be found here (quote is at 00:37): www.bilibili.com/video/av47236086
Wouldn't be surprised if other wuxia/xianxia games got an announcement first, but tbh wuxia games historically haven't done too well in the West so I wonder if companies even think it's worth it. All we can do is wait lol. I've waited for 3 years, another 2 or 3 doesn't even register at this point ;-;
IMO the recent release of the 64bit client sounds like they are slowly upgrading the client (DirectX 11 support was confirmed back in beta days though I'm pretty sure the current game only supports 9, and max graphics support is something that probably would do better with the 64 bit client). Maybe that will be something to look forward to when the game comes out West.
Yeah, in hindsight I'm not that surprised. If you think about the timing of the Taiwanese server release date (October/November 2018), the pipeline was most likely referring to those servers instead of NA/EU ones (Taiwan doesn't follow China's game approval policies so that's probably why they categorized those servers under "NA and rest of world" instead of "China"). With Nexon's majority share going on sale, I don't think there will be any movement for Moonlight Blade until the dust has settled. There's also the whole video game approval system from the gov't that hit Tencent hard last year so I wouldn't be surprised if Moonlight Blade is not at the top of their priority list at the moment.
Still, I'm holding out on the belief that the game will come to the West. Whether that is through Nexon or someone else is hard to say. Based on the change in their phrasing for this year's "IP Outlook" vid (they actually use the phrase "coming soon" haha) and the narrative of MBO as a venue for celebrating Chinese culture (of which I guess they'd have global plans for), I think there's some level of movement to get it over here. Though if they want to wow the masses in the West, they are gonna need to roll out those long-awaited DX11 updates XD

dimechime: the mmos.com link that tells you how to get a qq account is not 110% accurate, tencent changed the interface for registering a number

dimechime: in addition, QQ International has been removed from the Google Play Store, so if you want to use the phone app method you must use the Chinese app that is still alive on the Play Store

dimechime: Hi, if you take a look at the installation guide, that page is for the "Real ID Verification" system. You'll need to either get your hands on a valid Chinese ID, or talk to Tencent customer service (they'll ask for a pic of your passport/other gov't ID).
